How We Rate Betting Sites
Our Rating Methodology
At BettingDude, every betting site we review goes through the same rigorous evaluation process. We assess each site across 8 specific categories, scoring them on a scale of 0 to 10. Our ratings are based on hands-on testing, factual data, and industry benchmarks — not opinions or advertising partnerships.
The overall rating you see on each review is the simple average of all 8 individual category scores. This transparent approach ensures that no single factor disproportionately influences the final number. Below, we explain exactly what each category measures and how our scoring works.
The 8 Rating Categories
1 Reputation
We evaluate the trustworthiness and track record of each betting operator. A high Reputation score means the site has a proven history of fair play and responsible operation.
- Licensing and regulatory compliance (UKGC, MGA, Curaçao, etc.)
- Years of operation and market presence
- History of player complaints and dispute resolution
- Industry awards and recognition
- Financial stability and parent company background
2 Live Betting
Live betting has become a critical feature for modern bettors. We test the quality and depth of in-play betting options available on each platform.
- Number and variety of live events available daily
- Speed of odds updates during live events
- Live streaming availability and quality
- In-play market depth (number of bet types per live event)
- Cash-out options during live events
3 Website
A betting site’s website is where you spend most of your time. We assess user experience, performance, and overall design quality.
- Visual design and layout clarity
- Navigation and ease of finding markets
- Page load speed and overall performance
- Search functionality and filtering options
- Account management and settings usability
4 Bet Offer
The breadth and depth of available betting markets is one of the most important factors for serious bettors. We evaluate what you can actually bet on.
- Number of sports and competitions covered
- Depth of markets per event (match winner, handicaps, totals, props, etc.)
- Coverage of niche sports and leagues
- Availability of pre-match and early markets
- Special and novelty betting options
5 Mobile
Most bettors place bets on mobile devices. We test both dedicated apps and mobile browser experiences to ensure you can bet seamlessly on the go.
- Native app quality for iOS and Android
- Mobile browser responsiveness and usability
- Feature parity between mobile and desktop
- Push notifications and live score updates
- Mobile-specific features (Touch ID, quick bet, etc.)
6 Diversity
Beyond standard single bets, we evaluate the variety of betting formats and additional products offered by each site.
- Bet types: singles, accumulators, system bets, teasers
- Bet builder / same-game multi functionality
- Virtual sports and esports coverage
- Casino, poker, and other integrated products
- Fantasy sports and pool betting options
7 Odds
Getting the best odds directly impacts your long-term profitability. We compare odds across multiple sites to measure competitiveness.
- Overall margin/overround compared to industry average
- Odds competitiveness on popular markets (football, tennis, basketball)
- Consistency of odds across different sports
- Availability of enhanced odds and price boosts
- Odds format options (decimal, fractional, American)
8 Bonus
Welcome bonuses and promotions can add significant value, but only if the terms are fair. We assess both the headline offer and the fine print.
- Welcome bonus value and type (free bet, deposit match, etc.)
- Wagering requirements and rollover conditions
- Ongoing promotions and reload offers
- Loyalty and VIP programs
- Transparency and fairness of bonus terms
How We Calculate the Overall Rating
The overall rating displayed on each review is the simple average of all 8 category scores. Every category carries equal weight — we believe each aspect is equally important to the overall betting experience.
Overall Rating = (Reputation + Live + Website + Bet Offer + Mobile + Diversity + Odds + Bonus) ÷ 8The result is rounded to one decimal place. For example, if a site scores Reputation 9.0, Live 8.5, Website 8.0, Bet Offer 9.0, Mobile 7.5, Diversity 8.0, Odds 8.5, and Bonus 7.0, the overall rating would be:
(9.0 + 8.5 + 8.0 + 9.0 + 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.5 + 7.0) ÷ 8 = 8.2This overall score is then displayed as a percentage bar on the review page, where the bar width represents the rating multiplied by 10 (e.g., 8.2 = 82% bar width).
What the Scores Mean
Here is how to interpret the rating scale used across all categories and the overall score:
| Score Range | Rating | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0 – 3.0 | Poor | The site has significant issues in this area and is not recommended for most users. |
| 3.1 – 5.0 | Below Average | Falls short of industry standards. Notable weaknesses that affect the user experience. |
| 5.1 – 7.0 | Good | A solid offering with room for improvement. Meets basic expectations. |
| 7.1 – 8.5 | Very Good | Strong performance. The site excels in this area with only minor shortcomings. |
| 8.6 – 10.0 | Excellent | Top-tier quality. Among the best in the industry for this specific category. |
Our Commitment to Accuracy
All ratings are reviewed and updated periodically to reflect changes in each betting site’s offerings, policies, and performance. If a site improves its mobile app or changes its bonus terms, we adjust the relevant category score accordingly. Our goal is to provide you with the most current and accurate information to make informed decisions about where to place your bets.
